New Eastside Shopping Center Delaware Ohio-Glenwood Commons

There is a new shopping center coming to the eastside of Delaware Ohio just past Oakland Nursery and just before Krogers Distribution center on 36/37 called Glenwood Commons. The anchor stores are going to be Home Depot, Meijer, and Kohls. Several smaller businesses will also be moving into Glennwood Commons.  New subdivisions are also in the works along this 7 mile stretch.

It will be nice having a shopping center on the eastside of Delaware. However, as a resident of the eastside of Delaware, I am very concerned about the increased traffic this new development will bring. Does Delaware have any viable plan to deal with the increased traffic?  I have read that they do not have the money to fix the problem correctly.

I am very excited about Meijer and Kohls coming to Delaware I enjoy shopping at both of them. I live next to the future shopping center and I am concerned about the traffic.

  2. Bill on February 19th, 2008 5:16 pm

Will this be the next Polaris or Sawmill? Will the traffic destroy the east side of Delaware?

  3. Anon. on February 26th, 2008 4:20 pm

I hope the county has required a frontage road to be added to the new development, making use of the existing traffic lights.

We do not need any new additional traffic lights slowing down traffic on 36/37.

Are the plans for the new development available anywhere online?

  4. Bill on February 27th, 2008 4:30 pm

Well, I think there will definitely be several new traffic lights added. Here is something that I found about some of the new plans for Delaware. http://www.delawareohio.net/documents/Planning_Section.pdf

This exit 36/37 was not designed for growth from all this traffic. They should add an exit between polaris and 36/37 to spread out the congestion. Route 61 will be next and it’s not ready either.

When do you think we will have a Chipotle?

  7. Bill on August 1st, 2008 6:50 pm

I don’t know. Is Chipotle good? I always wanted to try it.

  8. Kim on August 1st, 2008 8:44 pm

I don’t know about Chipotle but Maurices and Saturdays hair salon is going over there. I heard rumors of a Payless shoe store and maybe Radio Shack.

  9. jessica on August 26th, 2008 7:05 am

Has anyone heard if the new complex will house a TJMaxx, HomeGoods and/or Marshalls? I thought that was already a Maurices over by the Kroger/Walmart Complex on 23? I want new and unique stores…

  10. Bill on August 28th, 2008 9:12 am

I heard that Maurices will be moving into the new Shopping Center,

  11. James on September 2nd, 2008 1:38 pm

Yes Bill Chipotle is the most amazing food that I have evr had in my life. And what is the point of payless and another radioshack in delaware? They just need to put new stores in not ones that we already have. We need more actual resturants like tgi fridays and maybe a mongolian BBQ.

  12. Dee Thurlkill on September 4th, 2008 6:31 pm

I would like to know when the new Home Depot will be opening and what are the dates of the opening.

  13. Becky on September 17th, 2008 8:54 pm

Mongolian BBQ would be AWESOME!!! I wonder what other stores are coming?

  14. Bill on October 5th, 2008 9:41 am

Here are some of the new stores that are coming:
    Meijer
    Office Max
    Kohls
    Maurices
    Sally Beauty Supply
    AAA
    Famous Footwear
    Hibbett Sports
    Dollar Tree
    First Choice Hair Cutters
    Nail Salon

Anyone know the other stores that will be coming? A few more restaurants would be nice up here but honestly…In the past 10 years I have lived here I have gotten sick of traveling south to Powell or Marysville in order to get what I need. I like the small down feel that Delaware has, but really … we need more up here!

There may be an increase in traffic but I don’t think it will be nearly as bad as sawmill, etc…

  16. shaun on October 10th, 2008 2:31 pm

I went to the new kohls and they said that there was a red lobster, chipotle applebees, and olvie garden coming as the restaraunts so far and I am hoping for a tgi fridays! I am so exited about the famous footwear coming and all the other stores coming and better yet this shopping center is the best thing that has ever happened to the city of delaware ohio!

  17. diana on October 14th, 2008 9:06 am

Tattletale is not a store coming to the development, it is a sign in one of the windows advertising the security system in use at that location.

I don’t forsee an Olive Garden going in the development, there is already one at Polaris. Also, I work for Darden restaurants (which owns Olive Garden and Red Lobster) and haven’t heard anything about new locations.

  18. zach on October 27th, 2008 2:45 pm

I would like to know what is coming out on 36 in delaware accross from delaware christan academy.

  19. jessica on October 28th, 2008 12:25 pm

    when will the meijer open?

  20. Lauren on November 11th, 2008 11:23 am

Does anyone know what they are putting up at Houk Rd and Rte 36? I’d hate to see more empty lots, and a few businesses had heard of a smaller Target going in a few months back.

  21. Sarah on November 11th, 2008 10:50 pm

I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to have a Chipotle here! And to anyone that’s saying traffic will get bad…. It’s alredy bad! I live and work in the heart of Delaware, and it takes a good half hour to get out to DQ and back on the average weekday. Our small streets aren’t really made for the heavy traffic that Kensington Station and Kroger Dist. have brought in. Not sure how much worse it may get, but I doubt they’ll let it get too bad.

  22. Tracey on January 20th, 2009 3:28 pm

Does anyone know when the Meijers will open?

  23. simon on January 22nd, 2009 10:20 pm

I was recently told that an applebee’s was going in beside Marathon.

  24. Bill on February 2nd, 2009 4:46 pm

I heard that Meijer will be opening around April 15.

  25. aaron on February 6th, 2009 12:36 pm

when are the other stores going to be open does anyone know??

  26. Bill on April 26th, 2009 10:56 pm

Meijer is opening on May 10.

  27. Jackson on April 30th, 2009 10:39 pm

Get ready for an Aldi next to Marathon look for it in this coming year.

How about your health check? Everyone speaks of grocery stores and food places. How about your health. Did everyone see the new Leaf Building across the street. We offer Chiropractic and Massage. Did you know that Chiropractic is about the Nervous System and not just your neck or back? The Nervous System controls our body and is your key to good health. Instead of masking the pain, give your body what it needs to heal naturally. And for goodness sake…….TREAT YOURSELVES to a massage!!! Massage has been proven to reduce blood pressure, increase your strength and flexibility, aids in sleep deprivation, and much, much, more. Call us anytime 740-417-4600 and I hope you get Chipolte as that seems to be the request!!

  29. Jessica on September 22nd, 2009 8:01 am

So, it seems as though they are getting ready to put something up in front of the officemax/ kohls area…anyone heard what it will be? My fingers are crossed for an applebees!

  30. Fred on October 9th, 2009 4:01 pm

Well it looks like we are going to get a new Verizon Store and a Dental Office of some sort in front of the Office Max/ Kohls area of the Glenwood Commons shopping Center! I stopped and asked one of the workers what the where building and according to him it’s a Verizon Store/Dental Office complex….figures…..hope he’s wrong….looks like I’ll still have to drive out of Delaware to a Applebees or Olive Garden!!!!

  31. Fred on October 9th, 2009 7:31 pm

“So, it seems as though they are getting ready to put something up in front of the officemax/ kohls area…anyone heard what it will be? My fingers are crossed for an applebees!”

Don’t hold your breath…..according to one of the workers that I spoke with, they are putting up a……….are you ready?……..A Verizon Store and a dental office!!!!

  32. Jessica on October 12th, 2009 1:35 pm

I don’t think they understand what we really need over there. Really, it would be so benefical to have a restaurant like applebee’s or something. A restaurant like that would be PACKED!
I won’t hold my breath, but I sure will keep praying that those workers are wrong!

  33. Jessica on October 12th, 2009 1:36 pm

    Add’l note:
This is how you know we need a restaurant over there…even my 3yrd old son, every time we pass the construction location says, “i hope dat an applebee momma”…

  34. Ken on October 23rd, 2009 2:48 pm

Go to the http://www.zarembagroup.com/shopping_glennwood.html website and there it shows, that there will be a dentist and a verizon store……..
We need a good restaurant there while we wait in traffic.

  35. goob on October 29th, 2009 8:42 pm

Darn. I was hoping it would be either a Mitchell’s Steak House or Ruth Chris! I hate having to drive all the way to Worthington/Polaris. Besides, Delaware needs a good steakhouse now that Damon’s closed.

  36. Dennis on October 29th, 2009 8:47 pm

I wish they would start putting in more stores in this area. That area is a gold mine. Everytime I drive by all the stores are packed. Glenwood Commons has the potential to compete with Easton & Polaris.

  37. Lynette on November 25th, 2009 12:27 am

How about a Cheesecake Factory, Brio or a Lindy’s? Delaware needs a few upscale restuarants.

  38. Lynette on November 25th, 2009 12:36 am

Does anyone know where the new housing development in this area is going to be and when they will begin construction? My husband and I were just talking about what a great area that would be to live in. With all the stores, restuarants and proximity to 71 I would imagine the interest level among homebuyers would be very high.

  39. Brian on December 1st, 2009 1:19 pm

Any update on the new development at glenwood commons, the arches on the facade look restaurant-ish to me. I know about the verizon store and dental office, there is more in the works i’m just not sure what…

  40. Jenn on December 5th, 2009 9:51 am

WE NEED A RESTAURANT OUT THERE>>>PLEASE!

  41. renee on January 18th, 2010 1:32 pm

Does anyone know when the new aldi’s next to the marathon is going to open?

And restaurants would be a good idea, a house of japan would be amazing!

  42. whodaman on February 6th, 2010 10:40 pm

just what Delaware needed, a dentist and a verizon store. What a waste of space.
We need places to eat here. Marysville, Marion and other towns have way more choices. I guess we’ll have to keep driving 15-20 mins to find something to eat. Nova is excellent, I recommend it to everyone. Boston’s in Marysville is very good.
Another thing that bothers me is increase in housing and development. Just last year they put a restriction on the number of housing permits I believe. 1,600 homes going in near Sunbury and they are tearing down Delaware Hotel to put more homes in. Dosen’t anyone else see the traffic problems we have already. It’s going to be a nightmare once the homes go in at Sunbury. My wife and I love it hear, but are considering moving because it’s growing too fast and way too many people.

  43. whodaman on February 15th, 2010 10:31 pm

Marion just got a Chipotle. People and Delaware would never put in a Chipotle, that would be too good of an idea. You’ll probably see a Rent-a-Center or H and R block go in. Basically something we don’t need.

  44. Barbara on March 19th, 2010 10:19 am

I contacted Chipotle, and they are planning development in Delaware, hopefully ‘by the end of this year.’ I’m not sure where, but it’s coming! =D

  45. Brad on October 15th, 2010 8:09 am

The new Chipotle is going in at the Krogers/Walmart center on 23 (Delaware Community Plaza). Where the old Sears Hardware was located. You can see now the construction on that building. It will be on the end closest to 23.

Got something to say?
